Who Played That Skinny Girl Creature At The End Of REC?!

If you've seen REC, you will without a doubt know of what I am speaking and will have asked yourself this same question. Is it a man? Is it a woman? Is it even a human being?! Well, you're about to find out.

If you haven't seen REC, do not watch this video as it will spoil the awesomely terrifying ending to the film and if you have seen it, don't watch the video either as it will once again invade your nightmares tonight. So now that i've instructed everyone reading this to not watch it, here's the video ; the last 4 plus minutes of REC.

The mutated and malnourished Medeiros girl was in fact played by a man. More specifically a man by the name of Javier Botet.

So why's he so skinny and why does he look like that, you ask? Botet suffers from a rare congenital condition called Marfan Syndrome, which prevents him from exceeding a weight of 75 pounds and which requires him constant surgery to even stay alive. No, he doesn't have boobs ya silly mofo, those were fakes. Marfan Syndrome is a genetic disorder of the connective tissue and approximately only 50,000 Americans suffer from it, with varying degrees of severity.

I'm not sure if this makes the creature scarier or if it makes the whole thing just plain sad and heartbreaking. Regardless, Botet is obviously making the most of his condition and the cards he has been dealt, so he must be commended for that. This is how you turn a negative into a positive and scare the hell out of millions of folks in the process. Botet managed to create one of the scariest horror villains in the annals of the genre. So fuck you, God!

While we're at it, how about the mutant at the end of the REC remake, Quarantine? I have not seen the film and don't plan on it doing so as I boycotted it before it was even released, but in the redux the mutant at the end is actually a man instead of a woman, but is again played by a male actor. That actor being Doug Jones.

We've all seen Jones' work without even realizing it was him in films like Hellboy, Hellboy 2, and Pan's Labyrinth. Whenever an ultra thin creature is needed, Doug Jones is the first one on the scene. He even played Silver Surfer in the latest Fantasic Four film. Jones has no medical condition, he's just a skinny dude.

I wasn't able to find a picture of him as the "thin infected man" from the film, but check the latest Fangoria magazine for that. You should already own it anyway.

Hmm....this gives me an idea for another post...i'll be back soon....

I finally got to see "REC" last week and much preferred it to "Quarantine". 'Just tons creepier, in my opinion.
Thanks for the salute to Mr. Jones, as he and Ron Perlman are my two favorite "go-to guys" when it comes to amazing portrayals of fantasy characters.

Dr. Satan is pretty cool, maybe Matthew Mcgrory could've been on here too, when he was Tiny i mean.
