Have A Little Heart

Story time!

I'm currently watching Jason Goes To Hell on Monsters HD (i'm bored and anything that's on there is better than anything else on tv...even if it's this crappy movie), and I was reminded of a little event from my childhood that I feel compelled to share...

I can't say for sure how old I was at the time, but I must have been pretty young. One night, my brother, mom, dad, and I took a family trip to the local Blockbuster with the intention of renting a nice movie to gather round the fire and watch. The movie we ended up picking was Jason Goes To Hell. I'm sure I influenced that decision but again, I couldn't say for sure. About 15 minutes into the movie, there's a scene where a dude eats a heart. Not exactly family friendly fodder. But let me first give a little backstory on my childhood...

My parents were always just about the furthest thing from strict as you can get. They never censored anything me and my brother wanted to watch (within reason) and I feel we turned out better because of it. Hell, if it weren't for that sort of parenting, I may not be as big of a horror fan as I am today! And you probably wouldn't be reading this blog because there probably would not be such a blog! I remember watching the Nightmare on Elm Street flicks and all kinds of other horror movies at an age that most parents would condemn such filth, but my parents were totally cool about it. And I will forever thank them for that. I hope to be as fun a parent when I grow up! If I in fact ever do grow up. But back to that heart eating scene...

For whatever reason, this scene really got to my dad and he immediately hit the eject button on the VCR. Sure, we were a bit young at the time, but even then I was kinda curious as to why it was this scene that triggered something in his head that made him turn it off. I guess he felt sitting around as a family and watching a man eat another man's heart was a little bit dysfunctional, and I can't say I blame him. I will say though that I remember not being bothered by the scene and enjoying it even in my young age, so that gives ya a little idea of how much of a gorehound I was even then!

Here's the clip for those who have no idea what i'm talking about...

Credit to Camp Voorhees for the clip! Check that out, they've got Friday part 2 available to watch free right on the site!

Proving that censorship only breeds a desire to witness whatever you're being censored from witnessing, I snuck out of bed later in the night and popped the VHS in and watched the whole movie all by my lonesome! Heart eating scene and all! So there's a lesson for ya, parents. No wonder those religious nut parental units always churn out rebellious porn star sluts! Censorship leads only to bad things! Let your kids watch horror movies! Or they'll turn out to be sluts!

Ya, I know. Another anti climactic story. I was just reminded of this as I sat here watching. I'll forever love that scene because of this childhood incident.

On a side note, Jason Goes To Hell remains the only Friday flick that I don't own in any capacity. Which, yes, means I even liked Jason X! Props to the film however for having both the Evil Dead Necronomicon and Freddy's glove in it. Maybe i'd even like the movie if I wasn't so dissapointed about the real Voorhees not being in it. Plus his mask/outfit sucked. Perhaps i'll give it a view someday with no biases over the lack of Jason against it. After all, I did that with Halloween 3 and ended up loving it!

I actually liked that film better than the last three Friday's and of course Jason X.

I know they tried to get a little too crafty with the Jason folklore and I know masked Jason only made a couple appearances, but if you can ignore that shit, it's actually a pretty good gory horror movie.

Which is why I probably should give it another view with all proclivities aside

someday!

I loved this one. From the opening scene of catching Jason and the autopsy sequence to the end cameo with Freddy, it was alot of fun and one of the few Friday flicks that didn't take itself too seriously. Certainly better than some of the last few movies in long running franchises.

My parents never let me watch horror movies and look at me now! They did let me watch Aliens when I was 10 cuz they thought it was more sci-fi. Damn that kept me up at nights!

I have never seen Jason Goes to Hell though it is on my list. I watched F13:Jason Lives last week and thought it was great. With the the 2nd highest body count in the series and the random corporate retreat paintball game.

Speaking of coporate retreat I have a movie coming in the mail called "Severance" about a killer who stalks a group of people on a corporate retreat. A reveiw said its as if The Office became a Slasher flick. Has anyone seen it? Any good?

@Jason "Severance" is OK. It starts out reeeeeally slow but gets much better towards the end. You may get bored early on, but trust me, the third act is worth sticking around for. Also check out "Botched" with Stephen Dorff. Starts out as a heist flick, but eventually becomes a gory horror film!
