My Stray From Horror For The Month...

Every so often, a non horror movie comes along that so inspires and interests me that I just can't bear to not talk about it on this blog, even if it's a strictly horror blog. I did it with The Wrestler and now, after seeing the latest trailer, i've been inspired once more...

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
Opening December 25th

Pitt...Fincher...that's really all I needed to hear to get excited about this movie. I remember hearing about it long before it even started shooting and immediately anticipating its release. Brad Pitt and David Fincher previously collaborated on the films Fight Club and Seven which, as cliche as it is to say, are two of my favorite movies of all time. Throw on top of that the fact that, thanks to that sick and sadistic channel TLC, i've been utterly fascinated by Progeria and the subject of reverse and premature aging. Here's what the movie is about, for those who weren't aware...

Pitt plays Benjamin Button, a man who is born into the world with the appearance and physical limitations of an 80 year old man. Benjamin is abandonded at a nursing home by his parents and miraculously, begins to age backwards. While there, he meets a young aspiring ballerina, Daisy, played by Cate Blanchett. The two embark on an immediate romance and are forced to deal with the struggles of one of them growing older while the other grows younger.

TRIVIA TIDBIT! The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button was adapted from a 1922 short story by Great Gatsby scribe F. Scott Fitzgerald!

I know movie magic can make some pretty incredible things a reality, but how the hell can they pull off making Brad Pitt look like an 80 year old man-baby? And for that matter, how can they pull off making him look like a young man! Granted, Pitt still does look in his twenties, even though he's in his mid forties. But an 80 year old?! Well, I just got around to checking out some clips from the film where you get a full up close and personal look at the ancient Pitt child but first, lets take a look at the trailer...

Did You Know?! Brad pitt, although nominated in 1996 for Twelve Monkeys, has never won an Academy Award. This year, he's already been nominated for the best actor Golden Globe for Ben Button. Will this finally be Pitt's year to claim Oscar glory?

Now I want you to check out some truly breathtaking clips from the film, thanks to Moviefone...

Clip #1

Clip #2

Apparently what they did was film a younger/smaller actor and then CGI Brad Pitt's old makeup'ed face onto that actor's body. If you had told me they were doing that before I saw any clips of it, I would've probably rioted and had visions of Marlon Wayans in Little Man dancing in my head. But the job they did on this one looks absolutely amazing and you can't even tell that there's anything CGI going on whatsoever. Sure it looks kinda odd, but an 80 year old little boy would look pretty odd in real life, would it not! Although I do kinda wish they hadn't shown any glimpses of Pitt as an old dude until the films release date. Then it would've been a real shocker. But I guess nothing can be kept a secret these days.

TRIVIA TIDBIT! The story was originally going to be directed, in 1990, by Steven Spielberg, with Tom Cruise as Ben Button! In 1998, it was then planned that Ron Howard would direct, with John Travolta in the lead role! Thank god that didn't come to fruition...

Again, the film opens Christmas day. Who's gonna be seeing it? I think I might have to go alone because i'm pretty sure i'll be balling like an infant by the time the credits roll. And I just don't want anyone to witness me in that state!

Back to horror until another movie comes along that inspires me to write about it...
