Speaking of Rip Offs....

I've seen this topic discussed on various places around the web so i'm certaintly not the first person to discover it, but what do you make of this?!

Photobucket

Yes, all four of those movies have the EXACT same picture used as the DVD cover, in various stages of zoom and Photoshop enhancement. They all came out around the same time ('07-'08) but from what I gather, Babysitter Wanted (which is a kickass movie) was the originator of the image. According to some dude on IMDb (always credible!), "Babysitter Wanted had this image from 2007 at Cannes before the film was even done. The other films actually ripped from them and after further investigating, I found out Babysitter Wanted has a copyright with Library of Congress on the poster and image." So how the hell did these other movies get away with this thievery!?

Thankfully, in order to distance itself from the pack of shit flicks, Babysitter Wanted will be released on Region 1 DVD with different cover art. As far as I know, a release date has not been set but I highly recommend you Region 2'ers or region free DVD player owners pick up the R2 copy as it could be a while before we see it over here in the states.

If anyone out there can shed any more light on this situation, please let me know!

That.. is fuckin' bizarre. I can't understand why they got away with it; more than that I can't understand why they would WANT to. How damn hard is it to take a picture of someone with a hand over their mouth? Not like you can copyright a pose.

Babysitter Wanted is NOT the originator, check out the original poster for "Turistas".

My point exactly, girls close-up. Wide eyes.

I didn't like Babysitter Wanted...

Brilliant stuff. Weird that they actually can do this and not get in any trouble for it.

Babysitter Wanted was great. Highly recomended also from me.

Are you referring to this, Zac?

If so, it's similar but certaintly not the same exact picture so you really can't lump that with these other four. I'm saying Babysitter Wanted was the originator of that EXACT photo.

It's still similar...but I do get what you mean. They only have, like, five templates for horror movie posters nowadays, don't they?

sure seems that way!

Hello! I'm a reader from a small town in Australia, and just thought I'd share an odd little fact. I work part-time in a library, and only yesterday came across a book with this exact cover! So it's not just the horror movies that like to rip each other off, it appears the publishing industry has also joined in :P

whoa! can you let me know the name of that book?

As soon as it comes back in, I will let you know...when I saw the picture I was far too shocked to take notice of the title...needless to say, I have been kicking myself ever since!

okay, here are the details...the book in question is titled "The Killer's Wife", by Bill Floyd. However, the US copy has a different cover to the Aus copy - go to google images and check, then change to google australia...yup, that's a ripoff right there! In fact, it looks exactly like the cover from The Attendant :S

Here's a small picture of the cover in question for those interested :
