Got a lot of events i'm attending this summer and I wanted to briefly mention a few of them, starting with the one that i'm mainly here to talk (and brag) about....
Saturday, June 27th - Tokyo Gore Night - IFC Center, NYC
Ah one of the many perks of living near the city. What exactly is Tokyo Gore Night? Well, running through the next month or so in the city is a thing called the New York Asian Film Festival which as you can imagine, is a film festival comprised of new Asian flicks. I just found out about this last night and immediately knew I had to make it out there to at least check out one of the movies (perhaps the super bloody and awesomely named Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl?), it was just a matter of picking the right movie on the right date to pick up tickets for. And then I stumbled upon it. The holy grail of the New York Asian Film Festival ..... TOKYO GORE NIGHT!!
"One of the most insane new voices in cinema is the screaming howl of Yoshihiro Nishimura, director of TOKYO GORE POLICE, and special effects genius (who also did the effects for LOVE EXPOSURE and SAMURAI PRINCESS, screening in this year¹s festival). He couldn¹t join us for the premiere of TOKYO GORE POLICE last year so for one weekend only we¹ll be hosting him at the New York Asian Film Festival and holding a special TOKYO GORE NIGHT event. First up will be screenings of several completely nuts short films from Nishimura and his cabal of lunatics all set in the TOKYO GORE POLICE and MACHINE GIRL universe. Then there will be a special onstage presentation by these madmen followed by a screening of TOKYO GORE POLICE during which we¹ll record a live audio commentary for the movie¹s upcoming special edition DVD. Accompanying Nishimura will be Noboru Iguchi, the director of MACHINE GIRL and the maniac responsible for the short film SHYNESS MACHINE GIRL which we¹ll also be screening that night. Also coming will be Tsuyoshi Kazuno, a visual effects supervisor on SAMURAI PRINCESS, MACHINE GIRL and many others. More surprises are in store, so make sure you wear something that you don't mind getting soaked with blood."
As i'm sure you know by now (and as I just mentioned the other day), i'm a huge fan of Asian gore flicks, Machine Girl in particular, but wouldn't ya know it, I still haven't seen Tokyo Gore Police! I think it's less out of laziness (I own a copy of the movie) and more a result of me always wanting to have that sure to be gem to look forward to, if that makes any sense. Or maybe i'm just lazy. Either way, this is gonna be the perfect opportunity to be introduced to the movie and this event sounds like it's gonna be a hell of a good and bloody time. This is also the date of Machine Girl director Noboru Iguchi's 40th birthday, so a party of some kind will be held as well. My tickets are purchased and i'm gonna be there! Be jealous! As always, I will have full coverage when I return so you non city folk can live vicariously through my fun!
If you want the full New York Asian Film Fest schedule, here it is.
