Discussion of the Week - Back From The Dead

Oftentimes in horror movies, the poorly developed and poorly acted characters are there only to be slaughtered in a gory fashion, much to the delight of us, the viewers. But there are those times when there is a character that is either so well written or so well acted that you come to love him or her and actually feel a little bit sad inside when he/she finally bites it. So I ask....

If you could bring one deceased horror movie victim back from the dead, who would you resurrect and why?

My vote, without a moments thought, goes to the man who was so badass that he valiantly fought Freddy and lived to see another sequel. From Nightmare On Elm Street's Part 3 and 4.....

Photobucket

Roland Kincaid, as portrayed by the super cool Ken Sagoes (or as I call him ; Ken whatever I Say-goes). Why, you might be asking? Videos speak louder than words....

This man is a golden god and that right there is proof of the utmost degree. Simply put, Ken Sagoes is one of the main reasons why Dream Warriors is my favorite in the franchise. What would've been a minor unimportant and unmemorable role that probably would've ended in Part 3, Sagoes turned into an iconic and highly memorable, not to mention incredibly likeable, character. Although I love that scene in the junkyard where Kincaid gets killed off in Part 4, I still can't help but shed a tear inside everytime I see it. Roland Kincaid, if I had the power to bring you back from the dead to battle Freddy one last time, you can bet your ass i'd utilize it.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ken Sagoes at the Monster Mania convention a couple years back and although I clammed up and did not ask him to utter the single greatest line in horror film history, like I had planned, it was still an experience I will never forget. I took a picture with the man but at the moment I cannot seem to find it. Although I think that even if I were to find it I probably wouldn't post it because as I recall, it was perhaps the least flattering photo of myself ever taken. Sagoes, however, looked like the beautiful chocolate angel that he is.

So, who would you bring back from the other side? Leave a comment and let me know!

Damn thats a toughie.. Great pick this week Johnnie!

My top picks..

Father Karras from Exorcist
Bishop from Aliens
David from AWiL

If I had to pick a winner, I would have to go with Quint from Jaws for being the ultimate badass that he was. The whole moral of The Exorcist lies in Karras' redemption and sacrifice, but Quint didnt do nuthin to no one.

*Spoilers for Friday the 13th (2009) in this comment*

It killed the movie for me when Danielle Panabaker's potential final girl died so anticlimactically in the Friday the 13th & that vapid annoyance Amanda Righetti was left to survive (for a while, anyway).

So I'd bring her back. Either her, or Mary Elizabeth in Final Destination 3 - I wish she was in the sequel.

Carl - Quint is a great choice. Such an awesome scene when he gets eaten but so sad too! Loved that character. Shaw was indeed the ultimate badass.

I was always sad when ernest borgnine and adrienne barbeau`s character`s bit the dust in "escape from new york", cabbie was such a jovial geezer and maggie was so gorgeous. Also in the ludicrously under-rated sequel "escape from L.A" i almost cried when valeria golino snuffed it, she was such a little darlin` and you could see snake really fancied the bird, his sense of loss when she got shot really came across as genuine (a great bit of acting by both golino and russell). Actually just thinking back to the first film again didn`t a similar thing happen with season hubley she got shot just as snake was starting to fancy her, she was a gorgeous little darlin` as well.

Wow, I just watched Dream Warriors for the first time on Sunday and thought how bad ass was that Kincaid guy! I plan on doing a post about that movie and cultural subtexts in all the Nightmare movies on my blog soon.

As for people I would like to bring back... Scream 2 was on TV this weekend and it sucked that they killed Randy off so quickly. He had all the great lines and was a lovable dork.

Kincaid was awesome!

The first name that immediately jumped out at me was Joey from 'Friday part V'.

Yes he's a bit mentally challenged but his very brief appearance in that film before getting hacked up into itty bitty pieces by an axe wielding Vic were priceless.

"I got two chocolate bars, want one?"...*whispers* "Don't tell the girls"

If only every movie had a Joey....

i was always sad when penelope sudrow got her bonce smashed through the t.v. screen, she had such an interesting scrunced up little face that was kinda` sweet and pretty, i always fancied her the most even though she was no-where near as tasty as the other birds in the film.

I have to agree with Carl and go with Quint from Jaws. He was pretty badass. Second choice would be Ginger from Ginger Snaps. I liked the character, plus she was kind of badass.

I haven't watched Dream Warriors in ages. It's long past due for a rewatch!

Quanthor - Much like Franklin in TCM, Joey was annoying but ya couldn't help but feel bad for him when he got axed!

Kaiyn - Believe it or not I only saw Ginger Snaps once and I wasn't exactly sober, so I really don't even remember any of it. I own it though and have been meaning to watch it again. How bout if I watch Ginger Snaps again, you gotta watch Dream Warriors again!

I loved meeting Ken Sagoes. He was SUCH a nice guy.

I think I'd love to see Will from Nightmare 3 back, only because I have a huge crush on Ira Heiden because of that weekend (what actor not only remembers your name all weekend, but asks you how you are every time he sees you, and steals your iphone so he can make sure you took a good picture of him).

I'd love to see Ginger back too, actually. If anything to see her be a bitch again.

It's probably cliche, but I was somewhat sad when Alice in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 bit it at the very beginning. She was not a typical strictly "good, virginal" Final Girl, and after her epic battle with Mrs. Voorhees, she didn't even get to put up a fight in the sequel at all.

I also hated Nancy's demise in DREAM WARRIORS. I like the movie overall, but her character, I thought, was really underused (I mean, not even one single scene of just Freddy vs. Nancy, come on!), and her character is dumbed down so much to make way for such a cheap death.
