Every once in a while I get an e-mail that really makes my day and today was one of those days. Arrived home to a message in my inbox from Lionsgate, announcing a brand new special edition release of one of my favorite horror movies of all time, THE GATE! I've loved The Gate (click for an old write up I did on the flick) ever since I was a kid and even before I actually knew the title of the movie and this news could not possibly make me any happier. The Gate : Monstrous Special Edition is set to be unleashed on October 6th of this year! Here are all the juicy details :
The Gate debuts in a Special Edition DVD this October from Lionsgate. Starring Stephen Dorff (Public Enemies), Kelly Rowan (TV's "The O.C.") and Jennifer Irwin (HBO's "Eastbound & Down"), the film is a terrifying tale about three children who accidently open a gate to hell which releases demons from an ancient civilization. The Gate : Monstrous Special Edition is loaded with new special features, including audio commentary with the director, interviews with the cast and crew, a stills gallery and the original theatrical trailer.
Now The Gate had been released on DVD a few years back but it's totally out of print now and sells for a pretty penny and besides, that edition was completely barebones in the way of special features. For these reasons, i've stuck to my VHS copy all these years and I cannot wait to get my hands on this special edition. It's been a long time coming and this Halloween season, it's finally here!

Thats really cool, I love The Gate..this will go nicely with Monster Squad, Fright Night and The Pitt..just need this and Night Of The Creeps.
Also the box art looks pretty strange, makes it look kinda like a remake.
I wonder if this new edition will include any shots of christa denton naked, she was such a gorgeous chick. With regards to the film itself, i watched the last few minutes of it on youtube the other day and it still reminds me of ray harryhausen at his brilliant best.

That kid on the front looks 'suspiciously' modern. I guess if you didn't know this was an 80's movie you might buy it thinking it was a newer movie (I guess that's the point).
While the cover art does look a little too modern, I kinda like it and i'm glad the little stop motion critters are featured on there. Besides, I really don't even care what the cover art looks like at this point. I'm just glad i'm gonna finally own it on DVD!
