Sticking Up For RZ's Halloween 2

Don't worry, I haven't changed my tune here or anything - I strongly disliked Halloween 2 when I saw it and I still just as strongly dislike it now. But i'm a fair man and though I agree with pretty much every point on every Halloween 2 basher's list of things they hate about the movie, there's one thing I have to stick up for Rob Zombie about. That thing being the rampant grunting of Michael Myers in this latest installment.

Pretty much everyone seems to despise and rag on the fact that Michael Myers makes grunting sounds each time he kills someone - some going so far as to say it sounded like he was constipated throughout the film - and while that didn't bother me much at all, it's not even the fact that it didn't bother me that i'm sticking up for it. The reason I have no problem with Zombie's Myers grunting is because, in case you forgot, John Carpenter's original version of Myers grunted too!! Nobody had a problem with it then, so why do so many have a problem with it now?

Check out this scene of Michael killing Annie and grunting away!

He does this throughout each kill in the film and while it may not be as hardcore or animalistic as the grunting he does in H2, he's still grunting! Believe me, there's plenty to rag on and bitch about when it comes to Zombie's H2, but this is simply not a fair point to criticize. It'd be like bashing the Friday the 13th remake for having a running Jason. Oh wait, everyone did bash that film for that very reason! Jason ran in many of the Friday sequels and nobody had any problem with it and Michael Myers grunted in the original Halloween and everyone considers it one of the best horror films ever made. What gives?! Don't we owe it to filmmakers to at least find valid things to pick apart and complain about?! That's all i'm askin!

But ya, Halloween 2 still sucked. And always will....

I enjoyed the grunting in the film, among many other things!

We haven't seen H2 yet...(I know we're awful) but I have also been questioning why the grunting is such an issue new but not old...I just figured it was more noticeable in H2...

Good post! To add to your example, I might also point out that in the original NotLD the zombies ran, used tools, and killed with weapons. All things horror fans tend to rag on when they appear in modern zombie movies. However it's worth noting that the 'survivors' of NotLD didn't drive around in a camper van pointing out the oh so ironic events at hand every chance they were given.
Haven't seen H2 yet as it's still not out in the UK, but seeing as watching the first one in the cinema was one of the most yawn inducing exercises in frenzied tedium perhaps I'll give it a miss...

Return of the Living Dead also has running zombies and everyone loves it!

Return is still my favourite zombie movie, and possibly one of my favourite films in general, it just has so much energy.

Completely agree. Who cares about the grunting? Of all the things to pick on...

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I hated the movie, but didn't even notice the grunting! As soon as I started reading the post, I thought Myers grunted in the original film too! People have a bad memory when it comes to hating something I guess.

I think this movie was so horrible they need to do a Recall of it and refund our money. Rob Zombie took a steaming pile of shit on a sterling silver platter and served it to us. Mentioning the rampant grunting as something you enjoyed about the movie is like me saying I enjoyed the good hour of shut-eye I got while seeing this peice of crap in the theatre. When Rob Zombies Halloween 2 comes out on DVD it may be worth the purchase if your Ambien prescription copay is too high.
