What are some of the most dissapointing horror movies of all time, to you personally?
A few come to mind off the top of my head (and i'm not gonna bash Rob Zombie's Halloween AGAIN, although it is probably my personal most dissapointing flick ever), with the most recent one being the one that made me think of this topic for this week's discussion....
The Hills Run Red - Again, I didn't hate the movie and I found it much better than most of the horror movies out there, but it was way overhyped and totally didn't live up to the expectations I had for it. If I hadn't been so much a part of the buzz and so excited about seeing it, I probably would've enjoyed its mediocrity a lot more.
Mirrors - After the awesomeness of High Tension and Hills Have Eyes, I literally could not wait to see Alexandre Aja's next movie - and this is what I got. I still find it hard to believe that the same dude who made those previously mentioned films even made this piece of crap. What happened?!
Diary of the Dead - It doesn't get much more dissapointing than this. George Romero making a new zombie movie, what could possibly go wrong? Hell, I even dug Land of the Dead and I felt if that was the worst Romero had to offer when it came to the undead, like so many felt it was, than he could keep making zombie movies his whole life and i'd keep on eating them up. But then Diary came along. I love ya George, but Diary of the Dead is one of the worst zombie movies i've ever seen. From Night, to Dawn, to Day, to THIS!? Really?!
Black Christmas (2006) - It's not even that I expected this movie to be good, I just wanted it to be fun. The original is one of my favorite horror movies of all time and I almost always enjoy Christmas horror movies, no matter how bad they are, but this one wasn't even enjoyable for me in the least. Easily the most dissapointing remake of all time. Billy is fucking YELLOW?!
Jeepers Creepers - This one's a little bit different in that I wasn't excited about the movie before seeing it and then let down - I was excited about the movie throughout the first half and then completely let down by what came in the second half. I still love the earlier parts of this movie and it had so much potential, but it all just went down the crapper and got real ridiculous real fast. I guess I can at least take comfort in the fact that I don't have to feel bad about liking a movie made by a child molester. Then again, I did dig Clownhouse....
Jason Takes Manhattan - So there I was, a kid at the video store, gazing at the VHS that promised me Jason Voorhees running around killing folks in NYC. Cool enough of a promise for anyone but all the more cool to me in that New York is my home state. I get home, pop it in, and Jason is nowhere near the city until the final few moments of the film! What the fuck! Talk about not only dissapointing, but misleading as well. I think we all eventually deserve a true Voorhees in Manhattan flick, even if it's a damn fan film.
And that's about all I can think of at the moment. Leave a comment and let me know your personal picks for most dissapointing horror flicks of all time!
