Horror Movie Trading Cards!

My dad used to be hardcore into collecting trading cards, which he'd keep sealed in the packs, and although he grew out of that hobby many years ago, he's still got his entire collection housed in the attic for safe keeping. While I was browsing up there for Halloween decorations this past weekend I stumbled upon the collection and decided to take a look through all the awesome packs of vintage cards, old bubblegum and all, and I found a whole shitload of old-school horror trading cards that I thought i'd share with you guys. Here's a few pictures of the packs I found up there....

Also found an open pack of the Fright Flicks cards you see pictured in the first image, which you can check out below. The fronts of the cards featured images of scenes from different horror films (Elm Street, The Fly, Fright Night, Alien, Day of the Dead, etc), along with funny little quips about the pictures, and the backs featured short tales of horror, with the question remaining of 'Did It Ever Happen?'. Gotta love the fun Topps was having with horror.

What a different time the 80's/early 90's were, eh? The idea of horror movies being immortalized in trading cards is something you'd never see these days and besides, if a company was to even put out trading cards based on horror flicks, what flicks would they even give the treatment? It just seems that there's nothing iconic anymore like there used to be back in the day when it comes to the genre. I feel like these cards sum up really well the difference a decade or two has made in the world of horror movies and that's why i'm so fascinated by them. It aint what it used to be, but we'll always have relics like these to relive the good old days.

Blows my mind that there was time and effort put into producing Jason Goes to Hell trading cards...Dont think we'll be seeing "The Unborn" or "Boogeyman" cards anytime soon.

Great post, great cards! You are right, things are different now. Seems like the fun days of the 80s/early 90s are gone.

And had I known, back then, about the Jason Goes to Hell cards, I would have been all over them!

Cool stuff!

so many memories. so few cards left. I used to combine the stickers with the Garbage Pail Kids. Creepy stuff that was always worth a chuckle.

I remember those! I think I still have a few floating around somewhere, both of the Fright Flicks, and the Gremlins 2 variety. I never could bring myself to toss them out.

Feeling a bit nostalgic, I Googled horror trading cards and saw the image up there with the Fright Flicks/Tales From the Crypt/Dracula, etc. packs of cards. Brought back some real memories there. Very cool. I used to see these in the card shops all the time.

Hey Johnny - Thanks for the post. I was totally unaware of most of these and now I've gotta do some hunting on ebay! I'm most curious about the ones for Alien and Jaws, but I bet the Hellraiser cards are pretty interesting too. I've been working on a project for a while where I make trading cards for The Shining; they would have fit in quite nicely with the above packs, if Topps had actually made them! Here's what I have so far:
