Discussion of the Week - Couples

I almost got away with making my way through a major holiday without making a holiday themed blog post but alas, the temptation was too strong. But rather than telling all of you guys to go watch My Bloody Valentine or that movie with Denise Richards, I instead want to know....

What is your favorite horror movie couple?

As tempted as I am to say black JFK and Elvis from Bubba Ho-Tep, i've gotta go with the only vampire couple in film history to successfully convert back to everyday humans and live a happy life together, sun and all...

Caleb & Mae - Near Dark

Ya gotta love a woman who will kill for you and let you feed off of her because you don't have the balls to do it yourself!

The complex relationship and dynamic between Caleb and Mae is what seperates Near Dark from the rest of the vampire pack and makes it one of my favorite vampire flicks of all time and one of my favorite horror films to boot. I love them as a couple and while I would've loved to see them live forever together, I think the flick proved that they're better off living and dying together like the rest of us. Caleb and Mae, if you're still out there, Jen and I would love to double date with ya. Lets go listen to the night together - far away from Bill Paxton.

Coincidentally, the only vampire movie that gives Near Dark a run for its money in my eyes is Let The Right One In, and Oskar and Eli would probably be my second choice for favorite horror couple.

There just aint nothin' like vampire love and I fully expect there to be many vampire couples rattled off in the comments section of this post. Get to it!

Hands down, Lionel & Paquita from BrainDead aka Dead Alive. I am hoping to one year dress as Paquita and have my Lionel wear a stuffed mother zombie on his back :)

Denise and Denny in Zombie Honeymoon are a very tragic couple. You should check that one out if you haven't, Johnny.

I'd also throw in Meg Halsey and Dan Cain in Re-Animator for good measure.

Chris Romero and Cynthia Cronenberg in Night of the Creep for dessert.

Does Mickey and Mallory from Natural Born Killers count? Although I suppose that's an action flick...

If not them, then the incestuous brother and sister in Wrong Turn 2 will do.

HMM idk why but Reggie & Rocky in Phantasm 3. That or Lydia Deetz & Beetlejuice, Columbus & Wichita, Caleb & Mae or Michael & Star.

It may not be normally defined as horror, but my pick is Pauline and Juliet from Heavenly Creatures.
Um, also, hrm...
Tommy and Megan from Friday the 13th 6: Jason Lives. Megan believes Tommy when nobody else would, maybe she and him end up happily married far, far away from Camp Crystal Lake.

Another corker Johnny. My favourite 'couple' would be Freddy and Frank from return of the living dead but since we're talking 'couple' couple and not double act I think I'll have to look elsewhere. Duane and Belial are good for their money too, but keeping with the holiday theme I'm going classic with the Castevet's from Rosemary's Baby. They have a combined age of around 420 years old and their weapon of choice seems to be overfamiliarity and making chocolate mousse but they really used to give me the creeps even before you know what they're up to.
Also a special mention goes to Doc Block and Doc Block from Planet Terror. They're far from in love, she wants to run off with Fergie and he wants to stick needles in her eyes, but as characters they are both pure badass.

I just did a post on this same topic on Friday, but my favorite is plain and simple, Chucky and Tiffany. Such an adorable & feisty pair, even if they fight more than my own parents.

All the character's relationships are great in Near Dark. It's funny because I watched this recently (after getting the BluRay for X-mas-yay!) and it inspired me to do a "Best Father's in Horror" post cause Caleb's dad is just amazing in it. I decided to wait until Father's Day because I'm a sucker for holiday-themed posts as well....I have a long time to wait.
