The Many DVD's of the Living Dead

Photobucket

Due to the fact that Night of the Living Dead slipped into the public domain many years ago, anybody, anywhere, is legally allowed to release their very own DVD of the film and profit off of it. As you can imagine, many many people have taken advantage of this over the years, which has resulted in over 30 different DVD releases of the horror classic, in Region 1 alone. Various bells and whistles have been added to some to seperate them from the pack, including color, 3D, laugh tracks, and even scene additions. Here are, to the best of my knowledge, the cover arts of each and every one of those releases, many of which you have probably come across at your local video store. I should note that I have only included the releases of Night of the Living Dead by itself - there are probably at least a few dozen more releases of it packaged with various other titles. Leave a comment and let me know which art is your favorite!

Night of the Living Dead has even been popping up on Blu-ray lately, which you can read more about on Blood Sprayer.

For smartass reasons I must say the cover with the Return of The Living Dead Zombie on it is my favorite :) But my favorite that I own is the latest edition :)

That's an impressive collection and I must agree with Kristy on the RotLD cover being a personal fav despite the misdirection.

I admit that I've never been a huge fan of the original (don't get me wrong, its a classic), but I do enjoy the Savini remake that came out in 1990.

The 3D version that came out in 06, however... total exploitative letdown.

Ha dude you've not seen anything.
On the NOTLD: Reanimated DVD Rob shows some of his collection of box art from VHS and DVD.. front back and even skims the descriptions. It's a great featurette but yeah 30... try over 100 different R1 covers floating around out there. I think he has like 50 or so which he features in the featurette and he's far less liberal with what counts as a release as you included 2 parody versions, a horror hosted copy and one which I'm pretty sure is region 2. I'm sure you'll get a kick out of the featurette when the DVD comes out in July.

Can't wait for that Mike! I figured there was a bunch more out there, but these are all the ones I know of/could track down.

I've got the Mike Nelson commentary version. All in all it's a pretty great little dvd; you can watch it in color or black and white, and you can watch it with commentary or without. Not bad for 10$.
