New Elm Street Documentary 'I Am Nancy' Now Available For Purchase!

Photobucket

After narrating and producing the amazingly extensive documentary Never Sleep Again, Elm Street's most beloved resident, Heather Langenkamp, set out to make a documentary that focused on her character from the franchise, Nancy Thompson. I am happy to report that the documentary is not only in the can but is also now available for purchase from the official I Am Nancy website. Check out a little sneak peek of the doc below as well as a synopsis, which includes a listing of bonus features included on the disc!

In this autobiographical documentary, I AM NANCY, the focus is squarely on Heather and her unique experience playing Wes Craven's legendary teen heroine. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Heather asks the burning question: "Why Freddymania, and not Nancymania?" After personally experienceing the Freddy Krueger marketing craze, the rise of horror convention fandom and the phenomenon of eight Nightmare on Elm Street films, Heather reflects on the relevance of heroes in this modern age of monster lovers.

Directed by Arlene Marechal, the hour and ten minute documentary features hundreds of fans as it pays tribute to the vibrant subculture that has powerfully influenced motion picture trends over the past three decades. Adding to the conversation are Robert Englund and Wes Craven who give amusing and insightful answers to Heather's offbeat questions.

Included in the DVD are expanded interviews with Wes Craven and Robert Englund as well as a collection of priceless moments set to the film's theme song, "I AM NANCY" written and performed by Jamie Coon and Tom Von Doom.

Edited by Troy Bogert, the film is a fast-paced adventure that juxtaposes the iconic, pop culture "Freddy" with the darker "Krueger" of our nightmares. Prepare to put yourself in Nancy's shoes and think about Elm Street in a whole new way.

Bonus Features:

Full Length Interview with Wes Craven
Enjoy the funny and often surprising repartee that develops between Wes Craven and Heather Langenkamp as she searches for the answer to her questions, "Do you ever think it would be possible for Nancy to supercede Freddy in importance?" Wes gives Heather an education about his process in writing A Nightmare on Elm Street and sets her straight about what it means to be a hero.

Full Length Interview with Robert Englund
Watch Robert and Heather get into the meat of the subject. Always the storyteller, Robert has a lively heart-to-heart talk with Heather as they go back 25 years to talk about the roles that changed their lives and the pop culture world that has embraced Freddy Krueger with whole-hearted passion.

Fan Music Video
Incorporating video clips from as many fans as she could, Director Arlene Marechal makes a love letter to the people who made this film possible. With hundreds of hours of video shot over a year and a half, this bonus feature captures the spirit of the devoted fans of Nightmare on Elm Street. The music, entitled I AM NANCY, was written just for the movie by the very talented singer-songwriter team (and devoted fans!) Jamie Coon and Tom Von Doom.
