A couple years back I began harnessing the power of Google Maps to virtually visit the filming locations of my favorite horror movies, from the comfort of my home. I've often dreamed of one day embarking on an epic road trip, canvassing the country for some of those locations, but for now this will have to suffice. In the past i've utilized the amazing Google Maps to take you guys and gals on virtual tours of Elm Street, Haddonfield & Amityville and today I thought we'd take a little journey together to Washington DC, the sight of two of the most iconic locations seen in the most terrifying film ever made, The Exorcist. Let's head over to 3600 Prospect Street in Georgetown to begin our tour!
Ok here we are, without the jetlag or the costly flight tickets. If you look to your right, you will see the MacNeil household, where Regan spiderwalked down the steps, pissed all over the carpet and fucked herself with a cross. Feel free to zoom in, zoom out and take your time walking around the house to view it from different angles. If you look close enough into the top story window, you just might catch a glimpse of the demon Pazuzu! It should be noted that this building was only used for the exterior of the house and that a false wall was added to make it appear different than it actually does. The interiors were filmed elsewhere. So I guess I kinda lied about Regan pissing, fucking and spiderwalking inside those walls. But this location is most famous for that iconic image of Father Merrin standing in front of it, which was used for many posters and home video arts.
Now that's cool and all but things get even cooler once you click the forward arrow at that original start position. You should see a blue dumpster. Move the image a bit to the left, past a white van and you will see perhaps the most infamous location from the movie; the steps where Father Karras plummets to his death after the demon inhabits his body. These steps were heavily padded with rubber for the filming of the scene, wherein a stuntman bravely threw himself down them, a stunt that Georgetown students charged onlookers $5 a pop to watch from the rooftops. Strangely enough, a rash of unexplainable deaths and injuries have occured on these steps since the filming of the movie, with the victims who have been lucky enough to survive describing an unseen force that pushed them forward. Ok, so that last part isn't true, but a good tour guide embellishes a bit to add some fun to the tour, no?

This is genius, but I am having no luck with the navigation. I need more practice with Google maps. Epic fail on my part. Arg!

Have you ever been to the actual location?
I finally checked it off my "Horror Location" list about 5 years ago. Ran up and down the stairs once.
Even got my photo of me as a crumpled mess at the bottom. Good times.
I have not but it's on my bucket list!
