Freddy In Space Exclusive Scoop On Killer Klowns From Outer Space 2!!

I don't think I need to repeat this but for the sake of establishing how excited it makes me to be posting this right now, I will. I am a HUGE fan of Killer Klowns From Outer Space. It's one of my favorite horror comedies of all time and it was one of the movies my girlfriend and I both individually owned before meeting each other and in turn bonded over, so it even has more of a special little place in my heart. A sequel to the 1988 cult classic has been rumored for many years now, though there has seemingly been no progress on that project over the last several. Until now.

A couple months back I began to hear rumblings on Facebook regarding a sequel that appeared to finally once again be in the works. A fan page was set up and it appeared to be run by none other than Grant Cramer, who played Mike Tobacco in the original film. This one seemed legit. I waited for the various horror news sites out there to pick up on the project and break news about it, but the news never came. I never heard any details about the project aside from what was briefly mentioned over on the Facebook page. So I decided to stop waiting and get the scoop for myself.

I contacted Grant Cramer on Facebook last night and to my delight, he responded and told me he'd be up for answering a few questions about the upcoming sequel ... which he did for me earlier tonight. So here, without further adieu, is the official scoop on Killer Klowns 2 straight from the source. This is to the best of my knowledge the first time any of these details have been discussed and I am so very excited to be sharing this inside scoop with you all.

Check out the official teaser trailer for The Return of the Killer Klowns From Outer Space ... in 3D ... and read on for the skinny!

- You've been the main source of information regarding this sequel. What's your involvement with the project?

I’m reprising my role as Mike Tobacco as well as producing. I also worked on the story with the Chiodo’s and wrote the screenplay.

- How involved will the Chiodo's be with the film?

The Chiodo Bros. are involved in a huge way. The original was their baby and though this one is a little bit more collaborative than the first being that I’m writing and producing with them, it's still their brainchild and I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing it without them. Stephen will be directing, Ed producing and Charlie bringing all his wonderful creative genius as he always does. The Chiodo's are good friends as well!

- Can you share any plot details with us in regards to the film? Will it be a totally new story or will it be connected to the first?

Well, I don’t want to say too much about the story at this early juncture but I will say that it is connected to the first movie and my character will be the mentor to the two new young leads that have to try save the world from the Klowns when they return. They're also trying to save themselves because the bad stuff the Klowns do at first gets blamed on them.

-Will the original Klowns be returning or will we be treated to a new batch this time around?

Definitely we’ll have a whole new batch of Klowns. I just left the Chiodo Bros' studio and they are dreaming up some great new Klown faces as we speak.

- What's the current status of this project?

We have a script and a commitment for all our funding but the money can’t be spent until we have a distribution deal in place so that’s where we are – talking to distributors. As soon as that final piece comes into place we should be pretty much good to go.

- One of the things that made the first film so iconic was the catchy score. Have there been any talks with the Dickies about them returning?

No, not at this point as far as I know but that doesn’t mean we won’t at some point in time. We’re going to do what’s best for the project now so we may listen to a lot of songs and composing ideas before making a final decision. There are also a lot of cool artists that are fans of the movie so you never know how that will work out...

- Why the decision for it to be in 3D and will it actually be shot in 3D? And I gotta ask ... will the popcorn gun shoot popcorn at us in three dimensions?!

I’m not a fan of 3D for its own sake but I do think it's amazing when it's used in the right movie and I can’t think of a better movie for 3D than Killer Klowns. We really want to have the feel of the original 3D movies too so YES, the popcorn will shoot right out at us and so will the cotton candy and all sorts of other fun stuff. We definitely won’t be like Avatar where all the 3D is going on in the background. That’s fine for some movies but not KK’s!! We want to be right in your face!!

- How can Killer Klowns fans help get this made?

KK fans can help by getting everyone they know to like our Return of the Killer Klowns From Outer Space Facebook page, our trailer on YouTube, all that stuff ... just helping to get the buzz going.

So there you have it. It looks like we're finally going to be seeing a sequel to Killer Klowns, over two decades after the release of the original, and it looks like it's going to be in the best hands possible, the same ones who made us all love those evil Klowns in the first place. I cannot urge my fellow Killer Klowns fans enough to become a fan of the film on Facebook and do everything you can to spread the word and generate excitement for this. Grant told me he will keep me posted on all new developments with the project, which I will of course share as they come in. So stay tuned for more!!

There's no way that trailer's anything close to "official". Many words are incorrectly spelled, the text is off center, the fonts are all over the place and the ending "2012" is the logo of the movie 2012. Why would it say "an unknown date"? Why is the "O" in "Koming Soon" capitalized? If this is the "official" trailer, then the "official" movie is going to be a huge piece of crap.

Oh man, this is a dream come true! 3d?!

Robert - Official meaning it was whipped up by the people behind the film, rather than just some fan. It was just quickly slapped together to generate some buzz.

As for why the date of release is unknown, that's because things are still being worked out before it can even begin filming, so a release date is obviously not going to be established for a while. Relax!

Holy s***! I never thought I would see the day that a sequel would finally, finally come to be.

And my sister is going to freak out when I tell her you talked to Grant Cramer. She used to have a crush on him back in the 80's.

This is awesome news!

I adore the first film!

Thanks Johnny, for answering that question about the trailer for me. You are exactly right. Official just means it was made by us to get the buzz started. And you're also right that it was slapped together quickly and that there are typos, etc... So its unofficially official!!

KK fos 2! Ive been a fan since I was 10, I have one suggestion . The girl klowns should look like sexy killer klown girls from outer space ,and the guy klowns should still stay creepy and scary .
