Major Update On That Popcorn DVD Re-Release Project!!

Since the last time I mentioned this project, a lot of exciting things have gone down thanks to the persistence of the gal you see above and her never say die attitude with this, so I wanted to give you a quick little update on what's going on with this whole thing. If you have no idea what i'm talking about, the long and short of it is that one of my best friends, Kristy Jett (who most of you probably know), is working on putting out a DVD re-release of one of her favorite films, the 1991 cult classic Popcorn, which will be accompanied by all kinds of extras including a retrospective documentary that she will be directing. Got it? Good.

Ok so first off, the Kickstarter fund for the project was recently canceled by Kristy, due to the fact that some things changed for the better. More on that in a second. If you donated to that fund, don't worry. The way Kickstarter works is that your credit card is only charged your donated amount if the project gets fully funded. Since it was canceled, no credit cards were charged by Kickstarter. Clean slate here, folks.

The fund is now being run through another similar site, IndieGoGo, and the main reason behind the change is that less money is now needed from the fans to help make this thing a reality than was previously needed during the Kickstarter fund. Being that Kristy's whole goal with this thing has always been to get it made for as cheap as possible, she naturally wanted to start fresh and only ask for what was now needed. Because she's cool and honest like that. The big news is that Kristy and her team officially have a distributor in place and they now only need $4,000 to get the documentary in the can, which is what they're trying to raise over on IndieGoGo ... over $1,000 of it has already been donated. In other recent news, the original camera negative was tracked down, which could mean a potential Popcorn Blu-ray release in the future, but the DVD is of course the goal for right now. If things go as planned, we may even see this DVD release enter our lives in March of next year.

But before that happens, Kristy needs your help. This is an entirely fan funded project and she's got all kinds of cool things to offer for donations even as small as $5, including finished copies of the DVD, thanks in the credits and original artwork posters signed by the stars of the film, who by the way are fully 100% backing this project. There are now 19 days left for all of us horror fans to pool together and raise the remainding $2,912 which will not only allow Kristy's dreams to come true but will also get us a highly kickass DVD release of an awesome film that will hopefully introduce it to new audiences. Oh and then there's also that thing about how Kristy doing this could revolutionize the way fans help get good releases of films they love out there in the world, but I think I suck her off enough so we'll save that for another day.
