New Trailer Of The Week : GHOUL

It was a week of animated horror bliss, with a new trailer for Paranorman and the very first look at Tim Burton's full length version of his 1984 short Frankenweenie both making waves around the net. I encourage you to check both of those out.

But it was a surprise trailer that spoke to me most this past week, coming seemingly out of nowhere. Let's check out my pick this week and then we'll talk a bit more about it!

There's a couple things that excite me about this Chiller TV Original Film, which will be coming to the network on April 13th (check local listings!). For one, it was directed by Greg Wilson, the man behind 2007's uber disturbing horror flick The Girl Next Door. And I'm talking about the one where the girl gets her lady bits melted, not the one with Jack Bauer's daughter. I am a big time fan of that film, and this one looks to have that similar feel to it, with kids involved in dark subject matter.

Which brings me to the second thing that makes me excited about this movie; kids in peril is one of my absolute favorite sub-genres of the genre. Be it The Gate or The Monster Squad, I absolutely love horror films with kids in the leads, battling evil and facing true danger the way kids oftentimes don't in horror movies. There's just something about kids exploring, adventuring and fighting the forces of evil that speaks to the inner child inside of me. When such a film takes place in the 80's, well, it's got me at hello.

I admit that I know very little about this film, hearing absolutely nothing about it until I saw that trailer last week, but a kids vs monsters horror flick directed by the dude who made The Girl Next Door is so far up my alley that I'm probably not gonna be able to walk right for a week. So count me in on this one, big time!

Care to take a moment away from munchin' on piranha to comment on this week's pick, Gary Busey?

'Well son, it chaps my ass a whole lot that you didn't pick my film Piranha 3DD as the Trailer of the Week. I eat piranha in it and Ving Rhames has shotgun legs. No brainer, really. B-R-A-I-N-E-R. That stands for Be Righteous And It'll Never Ever Rain.''

Oh come on, Garr. Everyone's seen that trailer a million times already. But when you're right, you're right. And you're right. It is pretty fuckin' awesome, so I'll include it below!!

Boobies.

It's based on the novel of the same name by Brian Keene. It's an amazing read, and has been one of my favorite books of all time. Actually, I totally recommend Brian Keene's work. All of his novels belong in one universe that is completely original (in my opinion). Some of his novels are lacking yet thoroughly entertaining (The Darkness at the Edge of Town, Urban Gothic) while some are extremely incredible (The Rising, Dead Sea, The Conqueror Worms), and all of them are gory beyond gory.
