My favorite trailer from last week reeks of the delicious smell of 'next great fucked up foreign horror flick'. Check out the brand spankin' new full trailer for the upcoming Filipino creepfest The Road!
I don't know much about this movie and I would prefer to keep it that way until the night I actually sit down to watch it. All I know is that it's been getting rave reviews, looks uber creepy and stylish, and it's told in a backwards fashion. I will dig no further and I'll leave it at that!
Released in the Philippines last year, The Road will see limited theatrical release here in the states beginning May 11th. Head over to the official Tumblr page for the film to keep up to date with current theatrical listings!
Quick thoughts on some other trailers released last week ...
THE WICKED - Funny that this trailer was released the same week Cabin In The Woods was, because this looks to be pretty much exactly the kind of generic inside the box horror cinema that Cabin is a rally cry against. It's interesting because Cabin really is sort of changing the way I see the genre. Whereas prior to Cabin I might've come on here and said, 'hey, this could be fun', now I'm realizing that we've really gotta stop giving so much credit to generic mediocrity. No thanks, but I'll gladly take some of that Wicked Ale. Get it? Get it?! Clever guys, real clever.
YOU CAN'T KILL STEPHEN KING - I dig the idea of this one, which sees a group of kids vacationing near Stephen King's house and getting killed off one by one in ways characters were killed in King's books, but again this looks like lame generic drivel. The cleverness of the plot is almost immediately killed off the second you hit play on this trailer, when you realize that the people who made it obviously think they're being a whole lot more clever than the movie itself actually is. Cool idea but again, gonna have to pass on this one.
