The Freddy In Space Jukebox : Pumpkin Head, By The Misfits

Over the years, countless music artists have written and performed entire songs based on horror movies, either because they were hired to do so by the makers of the films or just because they're huge fans and did it independently of any of that.  This new feature here on Freddy In Space will from time to time profile some of those songs, songs which are entirely based on specific horror movies.

The Freddy In Space Jukebox begins playing those ass kicking hits ... RIGHT ... ABOUT ... NOW!!

We kick off the fun with a song called 'Pumpkin Head' by The Misfits, which was part of their 1999 album Famous Monsters, an obvious little nod to the magazine Famous Monsters Of Filmland.  The song is more or less a re-telling of the plot of the original Pumpkinhead, and ends with the words from the beginning of the Ed Justin poem that the movie was based upon.

Listen to the full song below, and follow along with the lyrics underneath the video!

Now this is a story
Of a good man named Ed
Left his son for a moment
Returned, found him dead

Recalls a tale as a boy he was told

Of an evil witch so wicked, so old
So seeks a farmers advice he will not give
His oldest son knows just where the witch lived

He took Ed there but refused to go in

The boy knew what was about to begin
She has the power to avenge the dead
It costs your soul, now come with me, Ed

I'm gonna take you where your body will lie

I'm gonna take you there, my friend
I'm gonna show you where your life will end
I'm gonna bring you here again

Dig up this grave, the old lady said

The thing we need lies here dormant, sleeping with the dead
You understand what you ask of me
Not even death can set your soul free

I cast this curse and you will find

An evil darkness deep inside your vengeful mind
God damn you to hell (to hell) he could not restrain
He already has some, the witch did explain

I'm gonna take you where your body will lie

I'm gonna take you there, my friend
I'm gonna show you where your life will end
I'm gonna bring you here again

Pumpkinhead

Pumpkinhead

I'm gonna take you where your body will lie

I'm gonna take you there, she said
I'm gonna show you where your life will end
This curse I cast, you're Pumpkinhead

Keep away from Pumpkinhead

Unless you're tired of living
His enemies are mostly dead
He's mean and unforgiving

Until next time, this has been the Freddy In Space Jukebox, where it's all songs based on horror movies, all the time!!

I'm with Tony - I'm a Misfits fan and I miss Michale...I think their lineup doesn't get the credit it deserves and he should come back. I'm not a hater of the present lineup of the band either, it's just that it's hard to compete with the original lineup.
