Giveaway Time : Win A Copy Of 'The Slasher Movie Book' & A Maniac Cop Playset!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Got two awesome prizes here that I've been meaning to give away for a couple weeks now.  Since they're both related, I figured what the hell ... let's make a little epic slasher prize package out of it!

Here's what you're playing for ...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Just released on June 1st, the colorful 200 plus page Slasher Movie Book by J.A. Kerswell 'chronicles the glory days of the horror sub-genre that brought murder, mayhem and corn-syrup blood to the big screen'.  'From its roots in Hitchcock movies, grindhouse and violent French theatre to the Golden Age of the Slasher (1978-1994)', Kerswell chronicles the bloody history of the slasher flick, the good, the bad, and the downright awesomely ugly.  Packed with information and anecdotes as well as full color poster art, some of which you've probably never laid eyes on before, The Slasher Movie Book sets out to be the be-all end-all book on the subject and though I haven't read the whole thing yet, it just might be.  I've leafed through the book enough to have come to the conclusion that this is one treasure all slasher fans absolutely need on their coffee table.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The second prize is a limited edition Maniac Cop playset, whipped up by my friend Patrick Carson Sparrow.  I've blogged about these in the past but just to refresh your memory, this is one of only 20 of these sets Patrick created, and they're completely sold out over in his Etsy shop, never to be made again.  The 'Slasher Cop' playset comes with a Matt Cordell mask, a badge, a pair of handcuffs (with key!) and a gun; everything you need to make your friends and foes remain silent FOREVER.  Again, these are totally out of stock FOREVER, so right here right now is your last chance to get your hands on one.

Though I only have one Maniac Cop playset to give out, I do happen to have two copies of The Slasher Movie Book at my disposal.  So what we're gonna do is have two prizes here; the grand prize being both of them and the runner-up prize consisting of just the book.  How's that sound?

Being that this is such an awesome prize, worthy of you having to actually do something in order to win it, I planned on coming up with some kind of fun way to do this.  But ya know what?  I honestly couldn't come up with anything.  What does that mean?  It means you get off easy.  Real fuckin' easy.  Too fuckin' easy.

Leave me a comment on this post with your e-mail address and the name of your favorite slasher movie kill of all time.

Yep, that'll be all.

Good luck and the deadline for entries is next Tuesday, June 19th, at midnight!

Favorite slasher kill? From Fatal Games (1984): Chick is lifting weights. Then next thing you know, a javelin hits her right in the heart. It's done perfectly. Not fake looking at all!

Since it looks like i got here first, I'm gonna go ahead and lay claim to the Jason Voorhees sleeping bag kill. The original uncut one, not the neutered one in the final cut of F13 7. It's a popular one, maybe even a little cliche, but it's popular for a reason.

My favorite kill is actually from the recent (but awesome) Hatchet series. In the first film, nothing too violent really happens for a good while. We're introduced to the characters, they're fleshed out, and some great tension is built in the meantime. Then, when we finally get to the house of Victor Crowley - the swamp legend himself - he comes flailing out, screaming, and tearing apart the sweet (but annoying) elderly couple. The sheer gore, balls-to-the-wall cinematography and editing, and the great tension that led up to that point make it my favorite slasher kill of all-time.

Although it's probably cliche to use it, the sleeping bag scene In Friday the 13th Part 7 will always stand out to me.

and my favorite slasher moment of all time was in the evil dead, the first one. The scene where Scotty took and axe to shelly was hardcore for the time and something I don't think anyone would ever do today. It's not really a slasher type thing so if you don't count that, then probably, the scene in one of the hammer dracula's where he stabs the girl repeatedly in the bed, they made so many I forgot witch one.

My favorite slasher of all time has to be Intruder. Of course such classics such as The Burning and My Bloody Valentine come close, but Intruder takes the prize. I just stumbled upon this movie last year after years of hearing about it and was totally blown away. The Bluray is gorgeous and I have never been so unsettled by practical effects before in my entire life! I'm so in love with this movie I'm actually getting Sam Raimi hanging from the meat hook tattooed on my leg this summer!

Favorite kill comes from STAGE FRIGHT (aka Aquarius, aka Deliria, aka Bloody Bird) when the Owl Man punches through the locked door, holding the victim and place, and then through the door Owl Man drills a fucking hole through the victim's stomach!! By far my most favorite and if you haven't seen it, watch it. NOW!

I know some people don't consider this a slasher film per say, but it was certainly a predecessor, anyhow the first kill in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre always does it for me. Certainly one of the most out of no where and shocking (for the time.)

Thanks!

My favorite Slasher kill was in the original Halloween, when Bob (played by John Michael Graham) is stabbed straight into the wall. I don't know what It it about the kill, but I've loved it ever since I saw the first Halloween film.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is the basketball decapitation in Deadly Friend. Possibly not considered a slasher movie, but that scene was perfection.

Even though it's more of a spoof than slasher, I'm fond of Yu's death in CLUB DREAD. She's running away from the killer and hops into a golf cart, trying desperately to get away... at 4 miles an hour as the killer strolls lazily next to her, ready to slice.

Oh wow - I'm surprised that my favorites have already been mentioned...I thought about the hiding out in the loo scene in Stage Fright, Ally's death in Sleepaway Camp II (they're leaches, Ally!!) and of course Janet Leigh in Psycho (which I don't think has been mentioned, come to think of it) but if I have to pick one it's Tina's death in the original Elm Street. It changed everything for me and sparked my love of horror and slashers. I was blown away by that scene when I was 12 and am still impressed by it today. So good!

Fizz said...

One of the more unique and memorable, in my mind, in is Elm Street II. I love when the pet bird explodes and, rather than admit his house his possessed by Freddy's evil, he has a better explanation, he says, "it's that cheap seed you've been buying it!"

gOd damn, this is a really rough question. I am fairly suprised that no one has gave props to the guy who invented the splatter genre the Godfather of Gore...h.g.lewis..
So yeah, the kill that currently resides as my personal fave is the kill.. in his 1972 swan song film The Gore Gore Girls. The scene involves agirl who first gets her throat cut open, the gets her face ironed, then gets her nipples cut off and from one of her boobs out squirts regular milk and out of the other shoots chocolate milk. And within 4 seconds theres a bonus body her roomate comes home and gets her head dunked in boiling oil with french fries.. such a classic scene .to this very day it still makes me laugh out loud

I feel I should throw in a honorable mention since its a slasher contest. Scissors in the stomach in The Burning...TWIST AND SHOUT!!!

Shit I think my comment didn't show up.
Soooo, I was saying:
My favorite kill is in Nightmare on Elm Street 3, when Freddy pulled out the veins of the legs and arms from this kid and used him as a puppet, then threw him from a tower while all the other kids are watching and screaming. Priceless

Just for fun, two other scenes i was thinking of:

The scene in Slumber Party Massacre 2, where the killer dances and sings to a rock'n'roll song tracking the girls, then slays one with his guitar drill!! Cool as hell.

Last one is not from a typical 'slasher'. It's from Blood Diner, a horror comedy directed by Jackie Kong in 1987. But there are these two brothers who get some kick murdering people, and there is this scene where they throw a guy on the road in front of a night club, and the guy has his head smashed by the bouncing wheel of a lowrider car, and everybody fucking laugh! Ha ha! Hilarious and crazy movie. You have to love Blood Diner.

This isn't the most epic,or brutal death,it's the chain of events that takes place to one character over the course of a film, and even after his death. So in Friday the 13th part 4: the Final chapter (ha),Jimbo gets corkscrewed in the hand, and the clevered in the face. So after he's dead, jason then steaks him up in the door way to spook Trish, and the later Jason tears his corpse down because he's in the way, and they show that shot were the tent steak tears through his hand. That gets me every time.
All Jimbo wanted to do was drink some beers with his friends, go skinny dipping with the spearmint twin, and get laid, so he could forget about his horrible Ex-Girl friend BJ Betty. Jason really is a cold mother fucker.
