Trailer Trash : Psycho Cop

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Welcome to a new feature here on Freddy In Space, where I will be sharing awesome trailers for obscure little gems from the past, many of which can only be enjoyed on VHS.  The idea here is to dig up flicks that have fallen through the cracks over the years, and give them their little moments to shine here in the present day, moments in the spotlight which they probably won't necessarily always deserve.  What I can guarantee you though, is that the trailers will always deserve your time.  And who knows, maybe you'll even find a new favorite gem lurking in the Trailer Trash from time to time!

We kick things off with the trailer for Psycho Cop, the poor man's Maniac Cop which was released in 1989, one year after zombified Matt Cordell began reading motherfuckers his own version of the Miranda rights.  You have the right to remain silent ... FOREVER!!

Enjoy the trailer and then we'll talk a bit more about it!

I actually own Psycho Cop on VHS and though it's been a long time since I've slid it into my VCR, I do remember getting a serious kick out of it when I watched it with a friend many years ago.  As I recall, it's one of those so bad it's good gems that pairs great with good friends and even better booze.  In fact, a drunken double feature of Maniac Cop & Psycho Cop sounds just about like the best night ever in my book!

Believe it or not, Psycho Cop received a sequel in 1993 with Psycho Cop Returns, which was directed by Adam Rifkin, the man who went on to direct Detroit Rock City and Chillerama's Wadzilla segment.  Go figure!

Both films have been released to DVD in the past but are currently out of print, making them pretty damn obscure and easiest to obtain on VHS, the format which they should probably be enjoyed on anyway.
