Vintage Video Of The Week : Joe Bob Briggs' Drive-In Oath!

Photobucket

There are only a select few horror hosts over the years that have become household names among genre fans the world over, Elvira of course being the most well known example.  Also high atop that list is undoubtedly Joe Bob Briggs, the loveable redneck who spent most of his time at the drive-in.

Joe Bob Briggs was (and in fact still is) the alter ego of writer John Irving Bloom, born unto this earth to host and review drive-in exploitation flicks.  In addition to hosting the incredibly popular show Joe Bob's Drive-In Theater on The Movie Channel and later MonsterVision for TNT, Joe Bob also ran a one man stage show in the 1980's, which was in fact the calling card that got him those gigs hosting his own television shows.  It was during these stage shows where Briggs would recite what he called the "Drive-In Oath", a proclamation of the horror fan's love for all things bloody and filled with equal parts boobs and beasts.

So tonight, let's all gather round our computer screens, head back to the 80's, and together recite Joe Bob Brigg's Drive-In Oath.  Turn your speakers up and recite the words along with Joe Bob, loud and proud!!

Love Joe Bob. If you've never had the chance to read any of his books, then I highly recommend that you check a few of them out. You can buy used copies of 'Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In' and 'Joe Bob Goes Back to the Drive-In' for what is essentially the cost of shipping. A deal that no one can turn down.

To my mind, the only horror host that matters.

While dating, my wife and I found out we were watching that same episode of Monstervision (NOTLD '90, Motel Hell), miles away, years earlier.
Knew at that moment she was a keeper.
