Another Comic Con has come and gone, which is sad not only for those who were lucky enough to attend, but also for those of us who sat back with our eyes locked on our computers last weekend, anxiously ingesting all the exciting news and unveilings that the mega convention has become known for. So extensive and thorough has Comic Con coverage become on the big news sites pertaining to each of the main themes covered at the show, including movies and video games, that sitting on the computer and reloading those websites all day almost makes you feel like you're actually at the show, which is pretty cool because it allows you to take in all the sights and sounds, without dealing with all that pesky body odor and those massive claustrophobic swarms of costumed geeks. Though all that is of course part of the experience, it's always nice to watch madness like this from a safe distance!
So then. As with every year, there are a handful of exciting little nuggets of info and awesomeness that stood out for me personally from this year's San Diego Comic Con, and I wanted to take some time to take a look at all the coolest stuff that went down over the weekend. When I say 'coolest stuff' I'm of course referring to the coolest horror tidbits that tickled my personal fancy, so don't get all bitchy at me if I don't include your favorite bit of video game news here. That just aint my bag, and this is by no means extensive coverage of the con, just some cool shit I spotted from the comfort of my home this past weekend!
One of the biggest things I always keep an eye out for when I'm taking in Comic Con coverage are the cosplayers, who go out of their way to turn themselves into their favorite characters. Comic Con is a special place where even the nerdiest of the nerdy can become movie and video game gods for a few days, which is a truly beautiful thing. Check out some of the coolest costumes from the event!
ENGINEER & ELIZABETH SHAW - PROMETHEUS
These two got major coverage all over the net this past weekend, and for good reason. The Engineer dude looks like he walked right off the set of the film and the Shaw costume is just so damn clever. I don't know what their names are, but these two deserve some kind of uber geek medal!

ABRAHAM LINCOLN : VAMPIRE HUNTER
THEY LIVE

EARTHWORM MOTHERFUCKIN' JIM
I know this has nothing to do with the world of horror, but anyone who dresses up like Earthworm Jim will always have a place here on Freddy In Space!

DARRYLINE DIXON?
THE BRIDE OF CHUCKY
VICTOR CROWLEY
I think this dude was dressed up by the actual Hatchet 3 crew, who were there promoting the flick, but it's pretty awesome nonetheless. In fact, so awesome was the costume that many believed it was actually Kane Hodder under there! Now try and get the thought of a Predator vs Crowley movie out of your head. Go on, just try it.
As always, there were a lot of new developments and trailer unveilings at the show. Though we don't yet have footage of two of the biggest trailers that premiered, for Pacific Rim & Godzilla, here are some other exciting exports from the show!
Four plus minutes of footage from the upcoming season of The Walking Dead, giving us the first glimpses of Michonne, The Governor and a beloved character's return. Prepare for chills. And a boner.
This is the brand new poster that was revealed for Steven C. Miller's upcoming Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, which is coming our way this December. Me gusto!!
Towards the end of the weekend, Mortal Kombat : Legacy creator Kevin Tancharoen revealed that there will be a second season of the kickass web series. I'd prefer a movie, which is where I expected the web series to lead to, but this is pretty awesome news and I'll totally take it. In the video, Kevin talks about what characters we can expect to see in Season 2!

One of the most exciting new film announcements was that Chris Columbus will be producing a four part anthology film based on classic horror magazine Creepy, which is absolute music to my ears and I'd imagine, to the ears of most horror fans the world over. I love me a good anthology and this looks to be shaping up to be a pretty damn good one!
What do we still have to look forward to in the rest of Season 5 of True Blood? A whole lot, judging by this sneak peek at the second half. Ah, it sure is nice to see Bill feeding on Sookie again!
Being a serious toy and collectibles geek, perhaps the most exciting thing about each year's Comic Con for me are the new action figures that companies always reveal at the show, encased behind shiny glass walls. Though figures revealed here don't always end up getting produced, the odds are ever in our favor that we will soon be able to own all of these new toys. Behold ...
PROMETHEUS - NECA
Shortly after Prometheus came out we were treated to first looks at two action figures NECA would be putting out, of the Engineers. Little did we know that soon thereafter, the entire line would be revealed. David, mega Facehugger, proto Xenomorph ... OH MY!!!
DUTCH - NECA
NECA has for years been churning out Predator toys, giving us an action figure for pretty much every different Predator ever seen in a Predator movie. Soon, we will finally have a Dutch to kick the asses of all those Predator's in our collections. To this I say ... HALLELUJAH! Or ... err ... GET TO THE CHOPPA!!
FREDDY'S FURNACE - NECA
To go along with their new line of Freddy toys, NECA has whipped up this furnace environment, which features a hinged door and a flickering LED light on the inside, to mimic the look of a constant flame. This will be coming in October, Freddy sold separately.
CLIP ON CHUCKY & JIGSAW - MEZCO
I know some people get annoyed when horror villains are made all cute and cuddly, but I dig it. These 'Creepy Cuddlers' can be pre-ordered over on Mezco's website, and clip anywhere you'd like 'em to clip!

Remember those Star Wars style Alien toys Kenner was going to put out back when the movie was released, but never actually did due to the negative reaction to their previous 18" Xenomorph toy? Well a company called Super 7 announced that they are going to be releasing those toys, with the full support of 20th Century Fox and using the original prototypes. It sounds like something you'd hear in your wildest dreams but I assure you, it's the truth. For me, this was the coolest thing to come out of Comic Con '12 ... by far!!

And finally, we round out this abridged look at Comic Con 2012 with some exclusive little goodies, that were available at the event and only at the event. In other words, if you weren't at Comic Con, you're gonna have to hit up eBay for these and pay a lot more for them than you could've gotten them for at the show!

You probably saw this Hatchet 3 poster a few days before Comic Con, when it hit the net. The poster was being handed out for free exclusively at the show, by Adam Green and the film's production crew.

These black & white variants of two upcoming figures from NECA were selling at the show, and have already made their way onto eBay for around 50 bucks a pop. In case you hadn't noticed, NECA pretty much stole the action figure portion of the show, coming out strong as the hands down leader of the pack.
Not to be outdone, Mattel had up for grabs this exclusive Dana/Zuul toy, which features interchangeable lower bodies, allowing her to stand or sit on her evil ass bench. There is no wanting this. Only needing it.
McFarlane has already put out a couple different Michonne figures, based on the comic book rather than the show, and this exclusive is the first time she's been available in a bloody hooded variant. I've actually never read the comics (gasp!), even though I LOVE the show, but the coolness of this certainly isn't lost on me. Hell, I think I'm already in love with this character, just from what little I've seen of her!
My wife is a collector of the Monster High dolls, and I happen to think they're pretty cool too, so I was excited to see this new addition available at the show, called Scarah Screams. There were a couple new ones shown there, but this is the coolest of the bunch, mostly because it reminds me of May. This thing is selling for a whole lot of money over on eBay, which is not surprising given how in demand even the regular Monster High dolls are. Sorry Jen, but I don't see myself shelling out 100 bucks for this one! At least, I don't think I will ...
The last piece of swag I want to mention is this 50th Anniversary Mars Attacks book, which is the first book ever made about the 60's trading card series from Topps, which saw aliens invading the Earth. Though the one available at the show was an exclusive limited edition, signed and limited to only 150 pieces, the cool thing here is that this book will soon be available to us all. You can pre-order it for quite cheap over on Amazon, and it will be released in October.
And that about wraps up this look at my favorite little tidbits to come out of San Diego Comic Con 2012. Until next year, it's back to business as usual in the geek world!
