Vintage Print Ads : Freddy's Dream Package!

Photobucket

This old school print ad from the 80's is near and dear to my heart, not only because of the epic rhyme where Freddy essentially threatens to kill everyone if we don't all buy his swag, but because I actually owned that original Freddy mask when I was a kid, and have a plethora of fond memories of wearing it around the house.  In fact I can remember always doing this thing where I'd put it on and stick my tongue out of the mouth hole, whenever friends came over.  I thought that was hilarious at the time.  Hell, I kinda still do.  Only now I don't have any friends.

I know I've posted these before, in one of my Vintage Halloween posts, but here are a couple shots of a young me rocking that exact mask!

One of the great sadnesses in my life is that the mask somehow got lost in the passage of time.  No idea where it ended up, because I'm sure we never sold it or anything, but it just seems to have disappeared without a trace.  Of course I could always just go buy one on eBay, but it really wouldn't be the same.

Sigh.  I fucking loved that thing.  I even remember how it used to smell.

It smelled different from any other vinyl or rubber mask.

Mine corroded & scabbed. The scabs dried & cracked apart. I think Freddy would have liked it that way.

I too had this same mask and did the same thing with my tongue. Which is why I'm very hesitant to buy a used one to replace the one I had. You can't really properly wash those things.
