Vintage Video Of The Week : How To Care For A Teenager, Gremlins Style!

Man, the 80's were weird, in the very best of ways.

Back in 1984, as a tie-in with hit movie Gremlins, Gizmo teamed up with the N.S.W. Police Community Relations Bureau, to cut together a one minute commercial teaching parents not how to care for a Mogwai, but rather how to care for their unruly teenagers.  Putting a spin on the three rules of caring for a Mogwai, the commercial introduced three rules for keeping teenagers safe, and featured Gizmo as well as Keye Luke, who played 'Grandfather' in the film (later named Mr. Wing in the sequel).  Spliced in with the public service announcement were clips from the film, depicting the Gremlins getting into all sorts of hijinks, to drive home the message of the promotion.  What'd I say?  The 80's were weird, man!!

So while you may know the three rules of caring for a Mogwai, and preventing it from becoming a dangerous monster of a Gremlin, this week we head back to 1984 to learn the three rules of keeping a teenager safe and sound.  Enjoy this week's Vintage Video Of The Week!!

I used to LOVE that commercial; it was so cool to see Keye Luke and Giz in this ad, especially so soon after the release of "Gremlins" itself. The best part was having Howie Mandel doing Giz's voice again.

Good memories.
