Heads Up : Best Buy's Elm Street Collection Blu-ray Set!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

You'd think the entire Elm Street franchise being released onto Blu-ray for the first time* in one mega set would be much publicized here in the horror community, which is why I was fairly surprised to hear, only a couple weeks ago, that such a set was going to be released exclusively to Best Buy this past Tuesday.  I had my doubts, but I can officially report that the set was indeed released this week, and I picked up a copy from my local Best Buy for $44.99.  What?  Like I wasn't gonna pick this up?!

Just wanted to make this post to give you guys a heads up that the five disc set is indeed out there in Best Buy stores, and that each store apparently only received a few copies a piece.  So if you want it, be sure to head over to your local Best Buy as soon as possible.  If you can't find it, order the set online and schedule an in store pick up, and your store will order it from the warehouse for you.  Again, don't hesitate, because I've got a feeling these are gonna end up being super hard to find, real soon.

That said, the same exact set was actually released over in the UK last year, and it's currently selling for about $38, making it a bit cheaper than Best Buy's US version.  Of course, once you tack shipping on there, it ends up being around the same price as the US release, but it's a good alternative for anyone who absolutely can't get a hold of the US set.

Also gotta mention that the UK set has an alternate bloody version of the US art, which is a bit cooler.  For what that's worth.

Bottom line being, nobody's really got any excuse to miss out on this set, so don't miss out on it!

I've yet to crack into the set, but I will of course post my thoughts on the whole thing once I get around to checking it out.  It is absolutely LOADED with special features for each movie, and includes a bonus DVD disc with two episodes of the never before released on home video Freddy's Nightmares show on it.  So pardon me if it takes me a little while to make my way through everything!

One last thing.  Though the original Elm Street gets its own disc, the other six movies are spread out over only three other discs, so those discs have two movies on each of them.  I know some people don't dig that, so I just wanted to mention it.

UPDATE : THOUGH ALLEGEDLY EXCLUSIVE TO BEST BUY, THE US VERSION OF THE SET IS ALSO LISTED FOR SALE IN THE WB SHOP, FOR $47.95.  INNNNTERESTING.

UPDATE #2 : IT'S JUST COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE SPECIAL FEATURES BONUS DISC IN THE UK SET IS IN THE PAL FORMAT, MEANING YOU NEED NOT ONLY A REGION FREE PLAYER BUT ALSO A SPECIAL TV TO PLAY IT HERE IN THE STATES.  SO MAKE SURE TO PICK UP THE US SET IF YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO WATCH THAT DISC!

*Prior to this, only Elm Streets 1-3 were released on Blu-ray

Best Buy has the exclusive, but that won't take precedence over WB, who always sells everything on their site, since you know, it's theirs.

It is 'theirs', yes, but "Best Buy Exclusive" usually implies that it can only be purchased at Best Buy, and nowhere else. Not even in WB's shop. As far as I remember, the recent Jaws Digibook Best Buy exclusive Blu-ray was only available from Best Buy.
