Freddy In Space Exclusive : David Hess' Last House On The Left Soundtrack Coming To Vinyl!

Photobucket

One of the things I love about the original Last House On The Left is the amazing soundtrack, which was oddly enough written and performed by the late David Hess, who played the murderous rapist Krug in the film.  Though largely known for his work as an actor, where he brought to life some of the most memorable bad guys in exploitation history, Hess was also an accomplished singer and songwriter, and he in fact even wrote several songs for Elvis Presley.  Hess unfortunately passed away in October of 2011, at the age of 75.

Now the reason I bring all this up tonight is because this morning, I received an e-mail from a reader by the name of Sebastiaan Putseys, who absolutely made my day with the news he dropped in my inbox.  Sebastiaan is the head of a new Belgian company called One Way Static Records, who will soon be putting out a very special release of the Last House On The Left soundtrack, on both vinyl and CD, in tribute to the life and career of David Hess.

Now as if that news alone wasn't exciting enough, what was really awesome about the e-mail was that Sebastiaan told me he has been reading Freddy In Space for the past sixth months, and that he wanted me to be the one to break the news about this release, since he had noticed I was a big fan of Last House and of David Hess.  The press release was only sent out to two sites that Sebastiaan is a reader of, with this one being the only one in the United States that it was sent to.  Honored doesn't even begin to describe it.

Check out the full press release below, a Freddy In Space exclusive!!

One Way Static Records will release the original motion picture soundtrack from Wes Craven's 1972 film THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT.  The score was composed and performed by DAVID ALEXANDER HESS, who sadly passed away in October 2011.

This release will be fully dedicated to his memory, life and career, as both an actor and musician. The label teamed up with director Wes Craven, producer Sean Cunningham and the Hess family to make this release possible.

The release will contain the full original score and will be available on a deluxe gatefold VINYL edition with printed inner sleeve, on a DIGIPACK CD version and as a DIGITAL DOWNLOAD with digital booklet.

The vinyl version will contain 17 tracks (the complete original score) and the CD/download version will consist of 21 tracks (containing 4 bonus tracks, 3 of which are alternate cuts that didn't make it in the movie and 1 being a cover song of 'Wait For The Rain' by David Hess' sons, Jesse and Bo).

There will also be a limited hand numbered version of the VINYL release on colour vinyl with an extra bonus flexi containing the original 1972 radio spots for the movie.

All versions will contain extensive liner notes written by people involved in David's career and the movie (family, friends, agents, directors, musicians, actors, cast and crew…)

There is no release date set yet, but we expect it to be available in the first half of 2013.

If you're salivating right about now, as I am, you can satiate a little bit of your desire to own this release by checking out One Way Static Records' SoundCloud page, where you will find four tracks from the release, including 'Wait For The Rain'.  They're available on there for instant free listening, so definitely head over there and give those a listen.  Ah, the soothing sounds of David Hess' voice.  I love it.

Though One Way Static's website hasn't yet launched, you can keep up to date on this release, and everything they're going to put out in the future, by following them on Facebook and on Twitter.  I of course will also keep you posted about this release, right here on Freddy In Space.

Oh and once this does come out, Sebastiaan has promised that he will be partnering up with me to do a mega-sized giveaway, so stay tuned for that.  It'll be here before ya know it!!
