Sometimes it is easy to take for granted the places that are really close to us. For some reason, they don't have the mystique of places far away.

I was born and raised in the same city as Lizzie Borden and would wait at the bus station, sitting right across the street from where the murders took place. It was cool, but it was always there, so it wasn't "rare", you know?

After many years, the Borden house did become owned by people who wanted to embrace the history. It is a museum/b&b now!

It's funny because since I moved away from Seattle, I find myself wanting to do all the things I never did my first 18 years of life while living there whenever I visit. (That was a confusing sentence).

Anyway, it's a gorgeous house. Glad you got the opportunity.

As a Long Island native, I'm embarrassed to never have taken the drive out there back when I lived out that way. There was, however, a fourth grade teacher in my elementary school that lived in that town and had therefore earned the nickname The Amitivylle Horror. Sad thing was, she was actually very nice.
